Personnel Committee

2007 got off to an excellent start with the ordination and installation of our Associate Pastor, Rev. Jennifer Dunfee, in February. She was on maternity leave July and August (with reduced hours in September and October) following the happy arrival of Thomas Willoughby Dunfee Sharp into our church family on July 3. Pastor Jen has now resumed her regular half-time schedule as Associate Pastor for Family and Youth Ministries.

Our Pastor, Rev. Dr. Lynn Stanton-Hoyle, is in her 12th year of dedicated leadership. There has also been no change to the status of our secretary, Jane King, or our nursery assistant, Kim Meisl. We look forward to continuation of their excellent service in 2008.

After 3 years of ministry in worship and adult ministries, Bonnie Davis completed her work with us in early July as Pastoral Assistant for Adult Ministries and Interim Director of our Senior Center. (Additional personnel matters relating to the Senior Center are dealt with in the Senior Center Report.) In 2008 we will be exploring various options for filling out our pastoral staff in light of Bonnie’s departure.

Our dedicated music director, Ellen Thacher, took a 2-month leave of absence in the summer, during which time our service music was handled by a substitute musician and volunteers. Ellen has advised us that she will be retiring as our music director effective July 1, 2008. A major challenge for 2008 will be to determine the future of our music program and to find a director for this important mission of our church. We are grateful that Ellen has indicated a willingness to continue to serve as church organist, if this arrangement is consistent with the role of our new music director.

Rev. Lewis Johnson served as our Parish Associate on an as-needed basis throughout the year. In this role Rev. Johnson preached, assisted in worship, and taught classes as a welcome addition to our staff. We were also fortunate to have Gayle Schlenker continue as our seminary intern throughout 2007. We are looking now to recruit a new seminary intern to replace Gayle, who finishes her internship with us this year. Billy Lesser continued as Youth Intern for the first part of 2007, and completed his service with our youth mid-year. In the fall, we were pleased that Rachel Woodward and Rachel Dellinger agreed to become our new Youth Interns.

Carlos and Maybel Romero, who reside with their family in the manse, began work as part-time sextons in March. In addition to the Romeros, we continue to rely upon our long-time janitor, Mr. Qui Nguyen, for necessary cleaning services. Personnel matters relating to the preschool are addressed in the Preschool Committee report.
