Worship Committee
The Worship Committee is committed to assisting our pastors in planning for weekly services, as well as special celebrations at Easter and Christmas. Members of the committee are involved in planning the following: flowers, music, scheduling of ushers/greeters, lay readers, acolytes, communion preparers and servers, the Cup of Fellowship following Sunday worship services and a service at Fairfax Nursing Center every other month.
Over the last year we have adjusted to services in our remodeled sanctuary. Sunday services have continued at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m., with additional services at Easter and Christmas. Attendance has dropped slightly over the year. CPC participated in the Good Friday community service, which took place at the 2nd Baptist Church.
Our Director of Music, Ellen Thacher, provided inspirational leadership for the sanctuary choir and maintained excellent standards on the organ and piano as she accompanied congregational singing. The Handbell players, led by Diane Reimers, enhanced our worship at Easter and Christmas. The Children’s Christmas pageant, directed by Bette Petersen and accompanied by Ellen Thacher, was acclaimed as a great success. Our summer music program continues to be a challenge and more volunteers are required. Linda McGuire was our substitute organist for the summer and musical items were provided by Linda McGuire, Leslie Peterman, Mitch Martin, The Cliftones and Alan & Sue Yates. Diane Reimers and Nancy Coughlan have served faithfully on the piano playing several times during the summer and when Ellen has been away caring for her mother.
Every other month, a team from CPC led a service at Fairfax Nursing Center for the residents. Betty Alphin played the piano, Rob Bartholomew, Morris DeFeo and Alan Yates preached. Mitch Martin and Alan & Sue Yates provided musical items and various others assisted on an occasional basis.
Janet Buhler scheduled ushers, greeters, lay readers, communion preparers and acolytes. Diane Reimers coordinated a team of volunteers who took turns providing the Cup of Fellowship between services. Bette Petersen organized the flower roster. Peggy Cranston, Donna Henry, Betty Ann Stehling and Ginny Keen served as wedding coordinators. Peggy, Diane, and Toni Baldauf decorated the church for Christmas.
